Lauryn Hill broke a number of records by becoming the first woman to be nominated in ten categories in a single year, and the first woman to win five trophies in one night: Album of the Year, Best R&B Album, Best R&B Song, Best Female R&B Vocal Performance and Best New Artist.

Lauryn Hill was sentenced to three months in prison and an extra three house arrests for failing to taxes on about $1 million in earnings on June 3, 2013.

According to the Grammy-singer, Lauryn Hill, she explained she had always meant to eventually pay the taxes but was unable to during a period of time when she dropped out of the music business. She also said she hadn’t paid taxes since she withdrew from society to guarantee her family’s safety but that she always intended to rectify the situation.
