After hearing her sing with the Hyde Park A Cappella Choir, blind pianist Raynard Miner decided to support her career in music. The Gems provided a solid platform for Riperton’s skill despite their modest level of economic success.
The trio later took the name Studio Three, and in 1965 they contributed backup vocals to the timeless Fontella Bass hit song “Rescue Me.” The Gems released their final song, He Makes Me Feel So Good, in 1965 after having a local hit with I Can’t Help Myself in 1964.
