She was the lead singer of the girl group the Blossoms and she also recorded as a solo artist.

Love was born Darlene Wright on July 26, 1941, in Los Angeles, to Ellen Maddox and Reverend Joe Wright.

Her younger sister Edna Wright grew up to be the lead singer of the group Honey Cone.[4] She grew up mostly in Los Angeles, but also spent a few years of her youth in Texas.
