Roberta Joan “Joni” Mitchell CC is a Canadian-born American painter, producer, and musician. Joni Mitchell celebrates her birthday every November 7th and is currently 80.
Mitchell was one of the most significant singer-songwriters to come out of the folk music scene in the 1960s. She gained notoriety for her frank, unconventional compositions and lyrics, which eventually incorporated pop and jazz elements.
Also she has received numerous honors, including eleven Grammy Awards and a 1997 admission into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Although Mitchell wrote some of her most well-known songs on the piano, practically all of the songs she wrote for the guitar have an open tuning, or tuning that is uncommon. The veteran singer has written songs in about 50 different tunings, using what she has dubbed “Joni’s odd chords.”
