Leonard Cohen was a great songwriter and a taleted poet, his death came as a shock to everyone who knew him. He died during his sleep following a fall in the middle of the night on November 7th with leukemia being a contributing cause. His death was sudden, unexpected, and peaceful. He died at the age of 82.

His death was announced on November 10, the same day as his funeral, which was held in Montreal. As per his wish, Cohen was laid to rest with a Jewish rite, in a simple pine casket, in a family plot in the Congregation Shaar Hashomayim cemetery on Mount Royal
