Héctor Juan Pérez Martínez, better known by his stage name Héctor Lavoe, was a Puerto Rican salsa singer who lived from 30 September 1946 until 29 June 1993.

Because he contributed to the rise in popularity of this musical style during the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s, Lavoe is regarded as arguably the finest and most significant vocalist and interpreter in the history of salsa music

One of the most well-known salsa singers from Puerto Rico was Héctor Lavoe. Lavoe struggled for a long time with heroin addiction, and in 1979 he even asked a high priest of the santería church for assistance in order to aid in his rehabilitation.
