Muddy Waters parents: Meet Bertha Jones, Ollie Morganfield

McKinley Morganfield, better known by his stage name Muddy Waters, was an American singer-songwriter. On April 4, 1913, he was born in Issaquena County, Mississippi.

After World War II, he became well-known in the blues scene as a blues singer. He was known as the “father of contemporary Chicago blues.”

In the 1970s, early 1980s, 1990s, and even the 2000s, he received several honours.

He received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1992, was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1987, and the Blues Foundation Hall of Fame in 1980.

Muddy Waters was inspired by the local blues musicians Son House and Robert Johnson when he was 17 years old. He was raised on the Stovall Plantation near Clarksdale, Mississippi.

Alan Lomax captured him in Mississippi in 1941 for the Library of Congress. He relocated to Chicago in 1943 to pursue a career as a full-time professional musician. He made his first tracks in 1946 for Columbia Records before moving on to Aristocrat Records, a brand-new company founded by the Chess brothers, Leonard and Phil.
