James Earl Carter Sr. and Lillian Carter are the celebrity parents of James Earl Carter Jr. who is better known as an American retired politician who served as the 39th president of the United States from 1977 to 1981. A member of the Democratic Party, he previously served as a Georgia state senator from 1963 to 1967, and as the 76th governor of Georgia from 1971 to 1975.

Carter was born into a wealthy family. His mother worked as a registered nurse. His father was a successful local businessman, who ran a general store and was an investor in farmland. During World War I, Carter’s father had previously served as a reserve second lieutenant in the U.S. Army Quartermaster Corps.

Carter was the eldest son of Bessie Lillian and James Earl Carter Sr. his parents. Bessie and James moved their family several times, settling on a dirt road in nearby Archery, which was almost entirely populated by impoverished African American families.

Bessie and James are the parents of four children: Jimmy, Gloria, Ruth, and Billy. They are of white origin and hold American nationality. Today they are no more and the only one alive is Jimmy. Their three children all died of pancreatic cancer. Gloria Spann was born in 1926 and passed away in 1990 Ruth Stapleton was born in 1929 and passed away in 1983, and Billy Carter was born in 1937 and passed away in 1988.
