His mother enrolled him in local singing contests when he was 12 years old, and this is how a music A&R from LaFace Records came to notice him. Usher, his self-titled debut album, was released in 1994.

With the release of My Way, his second album, he gained popularity in the late 1990s (1997). It gave birth to “Nice & Slow,” which peaked at number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, as well as the top-two songs “You Make Me Wanna” and “My Way.”

The number-one singles “U Remind Me” and “U Got It Bad” from his third album, 8701 (2001), as well as the top-three song  “U Don’t Have to Call”. It sold eight million copies worldwide and won his first two Grammy Awards as Best Male R&B Vocal Performance in 2002 and 2003.
