George Strait was born on May 18, 1952, in Poteet, Texas, to John Byron Strait Sr., and Doris Jean Couser. He was named by his parents George Harvey Strait Sr. He enrolled at Southwest Texas State University which is now called Texas State University in San Marcos when he was honorably discharged from the Army in 1975. He graduated with a degree in agriculture.
Strait starred in the 1992 feature film “Pure Country,” the soundtrack of which is Strait’s best-selling album to date. and today, he holds the record for most Country Music Association Awards wins and nominations, including three Entertainer of the Year Awards.

According to our search, in 2006, Strait was said to have declined the invitation given to him because he was not a member of the Grand Ole Opry when he was elected into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
