Amy Jo Johnson became famous less than a month after she relocated to NYC at the age of 18 to pursue a career in acting and was selected to portray Kimberly Hart, the Pink Ranger, in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, the first installment of the Power Rangers franchise. For three years, Amy played the part. Johnson also had leading roles in two other full-length films.

In January 1998, Johnson won the role of Julie Emrick on Felicity (1998) but considered turning it down to be with her mother, during her last days. Johnson cites that the main reason for her departure from Felicity (1998) in 2000 was that she needed to grieve for her mother. Her mother had died two years previously and she felt that being on such a prominent show hadn’t given her the time or space to do so.
