American singer and musician Jack Leroy Wilson Jr. (June 9, 1934 – January 21, 1984) was active in the 1950s and 1960s.

He had a significant role in the evolution of rhythm and blues into soul. He was known as “Mr Excitement” and was regarded as one of the most exciting vocalists and performers in the history of soul, R&B, and rock and roll.

His arrest was related to a $2,200 contract judgment default for which he had neglected to show up at The Riviera Club in 1959. Police apprehended him, and he spent a day in jail before posting a $3,000 bond.

In March 1967, Jimmy Smith, Wilson’s drummer, and they were entertaining two white 24-year-olds in their hotel room when they were detained in South Carolina on “morals charges.”
