Donny Edward Hathaway was an American soul singer, keyboardist, songwriter, and arranger who lived from October 1, 1945, to January 13, 1979. Rolling Stone called him a “soul legend.”

Most people know Eulaulah Hathaway as the wife of the renowned soul musician Donny Hathaway. She could sing anything, though, just like her husband.
Hathaway wed Eulaulah Vann in 1967. While attending Howard University to study music, the two became friends.
Eulaulah Donyll (Lalah) and Kenya Canc’Libra were their daughters. Kenya is a studio singer and one of the three supporting vocalists on the popular TV show American Idol, whereas Lalah has had a successful solo career. Both daughters are Berklee College of Music grads.
Following this burst of activity, Hathaway recorded the theme song for the television show Maude and contributed to soundtracks. He wrote and directed the soundtrack of the 1972 film Come Back Charleston Blue.
He produced recordings for various musicians in the middle of the 1970s, notably Cold Blood, whose lead singer Lydia Pense’s artistic horizons were broadened.
