Caetano Emanuel Viana Teles Veloso, is a political activist, songwriter, singer, and guitarist from Brazil.

When was Caetano Veloso born?

Caetano was born on August 7, 1942. He was born in the Brazilian state of Bahia’s Santo Amaro da Purificaço, but as a college student in the mid-1960s, he relocated to Salvador, the state’s capital. Veloso won a music competition shortly after that, and his first record label soon signed him.

Veloso was one of the seven children born into the family of Claudionor Viana Telles Veloso (also known as Dona Canô) and José Telles Velloso (also known as Seu Zeca), a government employee.

During the 1960s, at the start of the Brazilian military dictatorship that took power in 1964, Veloso initially gained notoriety for his involvement in the musical movement known as Tropicalismo in Brazil.

Tropicalismo included theatre, poetry, and music. Since then, he has continued to have a strong creative influence and be a best-selling performer and composer.

Nine Latin Grammy Awards and two Grammy Awards have each been won by Veloso. Veloso received the Latin Recording Academy Person of the Year award on November 14, 2012.
