Robert Smith is the third of four children of to James Alexander Smith and Rita Mary. He was born on April 21, 1959, in Blackpool and was raised as a Catholic. His family moved to Horley when he was three years old and to Crawley three years later. Smith has two older siblings, Richard and Margaret, and a younger sister, Janet. He attended Notre Dame Middle School from 1970 to 1972 and then St. Wilfrid’s Comprehensive High School from 1972 to 1977.

He is an English singer, songwriter, and producer born on April 21, 1959.
