Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes may be Hollywood movie stars, but to their daughters, Esmeralda Amada and Amada Lee, they’re just mom and dad.

In a recent interview with PEOPLE, Gosling, 43, shared that his daughters don’t really care about their parents’ celebrity status. Despite starring in numerous films, Gosling explained that there’s nothing that would make Esmeralda and Amada see them as anything other than parents.

Gosling also revealed that even when Mendes, 50, made a guest appearance on an episode of the popular animated show Bluey, their daughters weren’t impressed. “They didn’t like it,” Gosling shared. “They were like, ‘Fast-forward through that part!’”

The couple’s children also have a say in Gosling’s work projects. While filming the action-packed comedy The Fall Guy, Gosling wanted to perform some of his own stunts, but his daughters quickly vetoed the idea of him being set on fire. “My kids didn’t want me to be set on fire,” Gosling said. “They were like, ‘No. No fire.’ So I didn’t do it.”

Similarly, Emily Blunt, who stars alongside Gosling in The Fall Guy, shared that her daughters, Hazel and Violet, are also resistant to thinking of their parents as movie stars. Blunt explained that her daughters have only seen her film Jungle Cruise once because they find it strange to see her play someone else on screen.

Mendes, who recently opened up about her hiatus from acting, shared that she has a short list of roles she is willing to take on now that she’s a mom. She avoids roles involving violence or sexuality in order to prioritize her family.

Ultimately, for Gosling and Mendes, their kids come first, and they make decisions with their family in mind. Despite their fame in Hollywood, Esmeralda and Amada see them simply as mom and dad.
