Ray Charles Robinson Sr. was an American singer, composer, and pianist who lived from September 23, 1930, until June 10, 2004. He was frequently referred to by his contemporaries as “The Genius” and is recognized as one of the most recognizable and influential vocalists in history.

He favoured the moniker “Brother Ray” when referring to friends and other musicians. Charles lost his sight as a toddler, possibly from glaucoma.

Charles fathered a total of 12 children with ten different women. It is rather unfortunate we won not have the identities of all his children.

In 1955, Ray Charles Robinson Jr. was born. Charles was doing a gig in Texas, so he wasn’t in town for the delivery. David and Robert, the couple’s other two sons, were born. In View Park, California, they reared their kids. Charles believed Della suffered during their marriage as a result of his heroin addiction.
