Country singer Mickey Guyton recently appeared on The Jennifer Hudson Show to open up about one of the scariest moments of her life involving her 3-year-old son Grayson’s hospitalization in 2021. The terrifying ordeal inspired Guyton’s new song “Scary Love.”
Guyton recalled the harrowing experience that occurred the day after she performed at the Country Music Awards. Her son fell ill with a stomach bug, which quickly escalated into severe dehydration. After three visits to the emergency room, Grayson was diagnosed with sepsis.
In a moment of desperation, Guyton reached out to a friend who is a doctor and shared a photo of Grayson, who was rapidly deteriorating. The doctor intervened and secured a hospital bed for Grayson during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Upon arriving at the hospital, Grayson had lost consciousness, leading medical staff to jump into action to stabilize him. Guyton vividly remembers the fear and uncertainty she felt, asking the nurse if her son was at risk of dying. The doctor’s response only heightened her anxiety, as he labeled Grayson as the sickest person in the ER.
As a mother, Guyton found herself on her knees praying for her son’s well-being, realizing the depth of a mother’s love and protective instincts. The terrifying experience prompted Guyton to write her emotional song “Scary Love,” which delves into the bond between a mother and her child.
After a period of recovery, Guyton provided an update on Grayson’s condition in November 2021, expressing gratitude for his improved health. She acknowledged the profound impact motherhood has had on her life, especially during her first Thanksgiving as a mom.
