R&B and pop vocalist Martha Rose Reeves was born in the United States on July 18, 1941. She is the main vocalist for the Motown girl group Martha and the Vandellas, who have over a dozen hit singles to their credit, including “Dancing in the Street,” “Come and Get These Memories,” “Nowhere to Run,” “Heat Wave,” and “Jimmy Mack.”

Reeves represented the city of Detroit, Michigan, as an elected councilwoman from 2005 until 2009. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame honoured Martha Reeves and the Vandellas in 1995.

On November 25, 2012, Reeves was awarded an honorary PhD in the humanities in Detroit. On October 4, 2015, she was admitted as a solo performer to the Rhythm and Blues Hall of Fame.

On November 14, 2015, in Monroe, North Carolina, during the Artists Music Guild’s 2015 AMG Heritage Awards, Reeves was presented with the Sandy Hosey Lifetime Achievement Award. The AT&T-sponsored 2016 Black History calendar for Alabama features her.
