Hema Mangeshkar, better known by her stage name Lata Mangeshkar, was an Indian playback vocalist and infrequent writer of music.
She died on February 6, 2022. She is regarded by many as one of India’s greatest and most influential vocalists. Her eight-decade career in the Indian music industry earned her honorific titles like “Queen of Melody,” “Nightingale of India,” and “Voice of the Millennium.”

Her mother, Shevanti, a Gujarati woman, was her father’s second wife. Her father, Pandit Deenanath Mangeshkar, was a classical vocalist and theatre actor.
She had three younger sisters: Meena Khadikar, Asha Bhosle, and Usha Mangeshkar, as well as a younger brother named Hridaynath Mangeshkar.
Although she mostly worked in Marathi, Hindi, and Bengali, Lata recorded songs in more than 36 different Indian languages as well as a few other tongues.
She spoke English, Indonesian, Russian, Dutch, Nepali, and Swahili, among other languages. Throughout her career, she won numerous awards and honours.
