Adams began her career in journalism as a graduate trainee at Central Television, where she focused on political and news reporting. Her first success came when she secured an hour-long interview with Margaret Thatcher.
After moving to Scotland Today, Scottish Television’s nightly news program, in early 1988, Adams continued to concentrate on hard news for the following few years. She arrived to the Lockerbie tragedy scene in 1988 as one of the first journalists. When Sheena McDonald, Scottish Television’s initial anchor, departed, she was given the chance to present a debate program, which led her down a different route.
