Actor, comedian, and producer Elizabeth Louis Dreyfus was born in the United States on January 13, 1961. She and Cloris Leachman hold the record for the most Screen Actors Guild Awards and Primetime Emmy Awards, making her one of the most honoured actresses in American television history.

Louis-Dreyfus belonged to the Delta Gamma sorority and attended Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. She studied theatre and took part in the student-run improv and sketch comedy revue the Mee-Ow Show before quitting school in her junior year and beginning employment at Saturday Night Live. Her honorary doctorate of arts degree from Northwestern University was given to her in 2007.

Her father was a prosperous businessman from France who lived in the United States. He was the chairman of Louis Dreyfus Energy Services. From 1998 to 2008, he served as the Poetry Society of America’s chairman.
