Janis Lyn Joplin was an American singer and musician who was considered one of the most successful and widely-known rock stars of her era. She was noted for her powerful mezzo-soprano vocals and “electric” stage presence.
On Sunday evening, October 4, 1970, Joplin was found dead on the floor of her room at the Landmark Motor Hotel by her road manager and close friend John Byrne Cooke. She died at the age of 27.

The late singer was born to Dorothy Bonita East and her husband, Seth Ward Joplin. The couple is the parents of three children – the late singer and her two younger siblings – Laura and Michael.
Dorothy is the mother of the late singer. She was born in 1913 but sadly passed away in 1998. She was a registrar at a business college.
Seth on the other hand is the father of the late singer. He was born in 1910 but passed away in 1987. He was an engineer at Texaco.
