Originally from the United States, Wanda LaVonne Jackson was born on October 20, 1937. Rock, country and gos20pel are just a few of the genres she has recorded and published songs in since the 1950s.

She was one of the pioneering female rock and roll performers, releasing a string of songs in the 1950s that helped her earn the moniker “The Queen of Rockabilly.” In the history of country music, she is also regarded as one of the first female stars.

In the late 2000s, Jackson kept up a rigorous touring schedule. A much-liked gig in Santa Barbara, California, as well as multiple performances in London, England, were among them.

For concerts at the London Forum around this period, she also worked with Jerry Lee Lewis and Linda Gail Lewis. Jackson was asked by rock musician Jack White to make her next album after she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009.

For the album’s recording in 2010, the two initially met after exchanging song ideas digitally. White was used to producing “current rock-style songs,” so Jackson didn’t believe they would “see eye to eye.”
