Is Martha and the Vandellas sisters?
Martha and the Vandellas (known from 1967 to 1972 as Martha Reeves & The Vandellas) was an American vocal girl group formed in Detroit in 1957. The group achieved fame in the 1960s with Motown.
The group was founded by friends Annette Beard, Rosalind Ashford, and Gloria Williams. After the lead vocalist of the group Williams’s departure in 1962, the group eventually included Martha Reeves, who moved up in the ranks as the lead vocalist.
In 1995, Reeves and the Vandellas were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2003.
Currently, Rosalind Ashford-Holmes, and Annette Beard-Helton, continue to perform with other singers, most notably Roschelle Laughhunn, as “The Original Vandellas”. Whereas Reeves, with her sisters Lois and Delphine Reeves, tour as “Martha Reeves and the Vandellas”.
