Chris Pine had the best support at the premiere of “Poolman” in Los Angeles. The actor and filmmaker was joined by his parents, Robert Pine and Gwynne Gilford, who are also actors. The family came together to support Chris’s feature-film directorial debut, in which he also stars and co-wrote the upcoming comedy.
During the premiere, Robert shared with PEOPLE the story of Chris’s journey to becoming an actor. Despite never mentioning his interest in acting while growing up, Chris eventually gravitated towards the stage. Robert recalled one significant moment when Chris performed in “Waiting for Godot” for his English class and impressed everyone with his talent. This sparked his desire to pursue acting further.
As a child of two actors, Chris grew up surrounded by discussions about the industry at the dinner table. This exposure inspired him to explore different aspects of filmmaking, leading him to direct “Poolman.” Chris explained that he reached a point in his career where he felt bored and frustrated, prompting him to pursue a project that would make him truly happy.
Robert also expressed his admiration for Chris’s ability to memorize dialogue effortlessly, something he personally struggles with. Despite their contrasting approaches to acting, Robert makes a cameo in Chris’s new film, adding a personal touch to the project.
“Poolman” is set to hit theaters on May 10, offering audiences a glimpse into Chris Pine’s creative vision and storytelling.
