From 1979 to 2008, Canadian politician William Alexander Blaikie served as a member of parliament for the federal New Democratic Party, representing the ridings of Elmwood—Transcona and its predecessors in the House of Commons of Canada.
Following a fight with metastatic kidney cancer, Blaikie passed away on Saturday in Winnipeg, according to a Facebook post by his son, Daniel Blaikie.
As a representative of Canada, he served on the King’s Privy Council.
