In a recent interview with WSJ. Magazine, Ryan Gosling opened up about how his role as a father to his two daughters, Esmeralda Amada and Amada Lee, affects his decisions in choosing roles in the film industry. The 43-year-old actor shared that he has been avoiding psychologically dark roles lately to maintain a positive mindset when he returns home to his family.
“I don’t really take roles that are going to put me in some kind of dark place,” Gosling explained. He emphasized that his family is his top priority, and he wants to ensure that his work choices align with what is best for them. “The decisions I make, I make them with Eva and we make them with our family in mind first,” he added.
Gosling reflected on his shift towards lighter roles, mentioning that the movie “La La Land” was a turning point for him. He wanted his kids to be able to share in the joy of his work, even if they were not physically on set with him. Whether it’s practicing piano, dancing, or singing, Gosling’s work now reflects the happiness and positivity he wants to bring home to his family.
Despite his recent focus on lighter roles, Gosling faced some challenges while filming stunts for his new movie, “The Fall Guy.” One particular scene where he had to drop in from a safety harness made him realize the importance of being cautious for his own sake and for the sake of his children. “My body turns to stone,” Gosling admitted, highlighting how fatherhood has heightened his awareness of safety and responsibility.
In a separate interview with Today, Gosling shared a heartwarming anecdote about his daughters’ affectionate nickname for his co-star Emily Blunt. The girls refer to Blunt as “Mary Poppins,” drawing a connection to her role in the film “Mary Poppins Returns.” Gosling laughed as he recalled his daughters asking if he was working with Mary Poppins that day, showcasing the joy and innocence that his family brings to his life..
