William Carter Spann was a celebrity child of Gloria Carter Spann who was a motorcyclist and activist. Spann was the sister of former president Jimmy Carter. She was noted as one of the first women inducted into Harley-Davidson’s 100,000 Mile Club, was named Most Outstanding Female Motorcyclist in 1978, and worked as an activist for motorcycle rights.

William Carter Spann, former President Carter’s nephew and self-described family “bad peanut” who was as troubled as his uncle was accomplished, collapsed and died Sunday in front of a stranger’s home in Oakland. Results were not available on an autopsy performed on the 50-year-old Spann. But it had been reported that Spann had AIDS and had been suffering from dementia.
Willian was the son of Gloria Carter and Walter Spann and was adopted by his mother’s second husband William Everett Hardy. He was born on October 10, 1946, and died at the age of 51, on February 02, 1997, and was buried at Chico Cemetery, Chico, Butte, California, United States.
