Martha Reeves parents: Meet Ruby Lee Gilmore, Elijah Joshua Reeves
Elijah Joshua Reeves and Ruby Lee Gilmore Reeves had a total of 11 children when Martha Rose Reeves was born in Eufaula, Alabama. She was the couple’s first daughter and the third child overall.
She was a little child when her family relocated from Eufaula, Alabama, to Detroit, Michigan, where her grandpa, the Reverend Elijah Reeves, served as a preacher at the Metropolitan Church of Detroit.
In the church’s choir and other activities, the family was actively involved. The kids learned their passion for music from their parents; Elijah played the guitar and Ruby enjoyed singing.
