When she was young, she joined the chorus at her neighbourhood church.
She started recording in 1962 under the name Darlene Love under the direction of producer Phil Spector. She sang lead vocals on the Crystals-credited songs “He’s a Rebel” and “He’s Sure the Boy I Love.” She quickly became a very in-demand vocalist and collaborated with numerous 1960s rock and soul icons, such as Sam Cooke, Dionne Warwick, Bill Medley, the Beach Boys, Elvis Presley, Tom Jones, and Sonny and Cher. Love appeared in several Broadway shows as an actress.
