American singer, songwriter, and guitarist John Cameron Fogerty was born on May 28, 1945. He co-founded Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR), which he was the lead singer, lead guitarist, and primary songwriter for, with Doug Clifford, Stu Cook, and his brother Tom Fogerty.

Between 1968 and 1972, CCR had eight gold albums, and nine top-10 singles, and was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1993.

In 1966, Fogerty received a draft notification to serve in the military during the Vietnam War.

He visited a nearby United States Army Reserve recruiter the same day he received the letter, who quickly enrolled him in supply clerk training.

Fogerty thinks the recruiter backdated the documents so they would go into effect before the draft letter showed up. Fogerty participated in training at Fort Bragg, Fort Knox, and Fort Lee while serving in the Army Reserve. In July 1967, after completing his active duty for training, he entered the reserves on a part-time basis and remained there until his release in 1968.
