Graça Costa, Gal Maria Gal Costa, also known as Penna Burgos (born Maria da Graça Costa Penna Burgos; 26 September 1945 – 9 November 2022), was a prominent music performer from Brazil.
She was a prominent member of the Brazilian tropicalia music scene in the late 1960s and was featured on the well-regarded album Tropicália: ou Panis et Circenses (1968).

Gal Costa was conceived on September 26, 1945, in Salvador, the Brazilian state of Bahia. During Gal’s pregnancy, her mother Mariah Costa Penna listened to classical music for hours on end in the hopes that she would find it interesting.
Gal never met her father, Arnaldo Burgos (dead 1960), who passed away when Gal was 15 years old.
Gilberto Gil and Caetano Veloso’s future brides, Sandra and Andréia Gadelha, were friends with Gal when she was ten years old. These earned her the moniker Gau, which was eventually written, as Gal.
