Stephen Ray Perry is an American singer and songwriter who was born on January 22, 1949. Between 1977 to 1987 and again between 1995 and 1998, when the rock band Journey saw their greatest commercial success, he served as their main singer.
He also co-authored or wrote a number of Journey’s well-known songs. Between the mid-1980s and mid-1990s, Perry enjoyed popularity as a solo artist. Between then and 2018, Perry made occasional appearances in music.

Early in his 20s, Perry relocated to Sacramento to form a band with future music producer Scott Mathews, then 16 years old, who co-wrote the songs, played the drums, guitar, and sang. Ice was a band with innovative songs and a promising future in the music industry.
They recorded in the Los Angeles Record Plant studios in 1972 as Stevie Wonder worked on his Talking Book album at night. After arriving home in Sacramento, Ice broke up because Mathews was still a high school student, the band lacked management, and the music was seldom ever heard.
