D’Angelo a stage name used by Michael Eugene Archer (born February 11, 1974), is an American singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and record producer.
After collaborating on the tune “U Will Know” with the R&B ensemble Black Men United, he initially came to public recognition.
What happened to Dangelo?
After the success of his debut album Brown Sugar in 1995, D’Angelo took a four-and-a-half-year break from the music industry before returning with new solo material.
D’Angelo was unable to compose after spending two years on the road promoting Brown Sugar. The problem with writer’s block is that you want to write so badly, but the songs don’t come out that way, D’Angelo subsequently said in response to the setback.
They are made of life. Therefore, you must be alive to write. He frequently released cover songs and remakes throughout his hiatus, such as a cover of the Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell duet “Your Precious Love” for the High School High album with Erykah Badu (1996).
D’Angelo’s personal problems had gotten worse by the time his global tour to promote the record ended that same year, which had an impact on performances.
D’Angelo’s awareness of and discomfort with his role as a sex symbol increased, and after the tour, he went back to his Richmond, Virginia, home and vanished from view.
The commercial effect of the “Untitled (How Does It Feel)” music video and The Voodoo Tour have been cited by a number of D’Angelo’s contemporaries and associates as contributing causes to the singer’s extended departure from the music scene.
In an interview with Spin magazine in 2008, Dominique Trenier, his former music manager, discussed his dissatisfaction with the music video’s effect.
