Mavis Staples is an American actress, gospel and rhythm and blues singer, and civil rights activist.

She achieved prominence as a member of The Staple Singers, a band owned by her family. She participated in the group’s recording sessions for the smash songs “I’ll Take You There” and “Let’s Do It Again.”

Staples has received three Grammy Awards, including one for Album of the Year for his work on Jon Batiste’s song We Are.

She also received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. As a member of The Staple Singers, Staples was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1999 and the Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 2018.

In 2008, Rolling Stone named him one of the “100 Greatest Singers of All Time.” She also received the Kennedy Center Honor in 2016. She was a soloist when she was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame the following year. As a solo performer, she was given the first Rock Hall Honors Award by the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2019.
