Louis Armstrong was an American trumpeter and singer who lived from August 4, 1901, until July 6, 1971.

In 1965, for his work on Hello, Dolly!, he won a Grammy Award for Best Male Vocal Performance. He also received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award posthumously in 1972. His career spanned five decades.

Very little is known regarding the lives of his aforementioned siblings. In 1922, jazz great King Oliver extended an invitation to Armstrong to go from New Orleans to Chicago. Armstrong performed the second cornet in Oliver’s Creole Jazz Band at the Lincoln Gardens, which was exclusively for black people.

His band had a lot of success at the time. As time went on, they obtained well-paying positions in white areas.

Armstrong’s standing in society also declined sharply. When he was playing, other jazz artists would gather to watch him merely to admire the upcoming legend.
