Bessie Smith, aka Empress of the Blues was an American blues singer born on April 15, 1984. She rose to fame and became the most popular female musician who dabbled in the genre blues in the 1930s.
Bessie, who passed away om September 26, 1937, was inducted into the 1989 Rock anf Roll Hall of Fame. She was a significant impact on jazz vocalists as well as fellow blues singers and is frequently cited as one of the greatest singers of her time.

Bessie Smith married twice in her lifetime and was reportedly seeing women while in her first marriage. Bessie was first married to Jack Gee, a security Guard. They tied the knot in 1923. Although they did not officially divorce, the pair separated in 1929 after Jack Gee got himself involved with another lady. Bessie later on committed to Richard Morgan via a common-law marriage. She was with Richard until her death.
