Prince adopted his old name in 2000 after joining Arista Records in 1998. Six of his albums reached the top 10 in the U.S. charts over the ensuing ten years.

Prince, 57, passed away in April 2016 at his Paisley Park residence and music studio in Chanhassen, Minnesota, from an unintentional fentanyl overdose.

Throughout his career, he also put songs out under several aliases and wrote songs that other artists recorded, most notably “Nothing Compares 2 U” by Sinéad O’Connor and “Manic Monday” by the Bangles. Between 500 and well over 1,000 songs are thought to be all that Prince ever wrote.

Prince is one of the best-selling musicians of all time with over 100 million records sold globally. The Grammy President’s Merit Award, the American Music Awards for Achievement and of Merit, the Billboard Icon Award, an Academy Award, and a Golden Globe Award were among his honors.

He also received an Oscar and a Golden Globe. He received inductions into the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2006, the Rhythm and Blues Music Hall of Fame in 2016, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004 and the Black Music & Entertainment Walk of Fame again in 2022.
