His parents both came from Louisiana-based African-American households. When he was young, they split up, which caused him to move back and forth.
Prince ran away from home as a result of his tense relationship with his stepfather.
Why did Prince run away?
The Andersons are a family who adopted Prince. Prince and Charles Smith started a band named Grand Central shortly after becoming friends with Andre Anderson (Cymone), the Andersons’ son. Later changing their name to Champagne, the band enjoyed some live success but quickly lost it.
At the age of 18, Prince began collaborating with Chris Moon on professional demo tracks. With the help of these demo tracks, Prince finally decided to sign a recording deal with Warner Brothers Records, becoming the label’s youngest producer. With the release of his album For You in 1978, Prince made his record company debut.
Although it wasn’t a particularly popular album, it did rather well for a debut artist and reached number 163 on the American Pop Charts. The next albums by Prince, which included the singles “Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad?” and “I Wanna Be Your Lover” in 1979, tended to perform significantly better on the charts.
