After more than six decades of exposing audiences to electric blues, the charismatic guitarist and vocalist B.B. King passed away on Thursday, May 14, 2015, in Las Vegas. Riley B. King was born on September 16, 1925, in Itta Bena, Mississippi. He was 89.
King, the unsurpassed blues spokesperson, kept up a rigorous touring schedule far into his late 80s. He popularized the style with his own playing style, which included a throaty, howling vocal delivery and an electric guitar dubbed Lucille with a ringing single-note vibrato sound. He was given 15 Grammy Awards in 1987 and was also admitted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
