Despite writing she wasn’t ready to “discuss the passing” of her father yet, the rapper, born Onika Tanya Maraj, broke her silence in a personal message on her website.
“I can say it has been the most devastating loss of my life. I find myself wanting to call him all the time. More so now that he’s gone,” Minaj wrote. “May his soul rest in paradise. He was very loved & will be very missed.

Mr, Maraj, 64-year-old, was crossing the street in Long Island when he was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene in February. According to Minaj’s representative Joseph Carozza, he was taken to a local hospital in critical condition and pronounced dead the next day.
Maraj was of mixed Afro and Indo-Trinidadian ancestry. Maraj was from Saint James, Trinidad, and Tobago. When Nicki was a little girl living with her grandmother in Saint James, Robert and his wife, Carol Maraj, was living in America, looking for work and a house in Queens, New York City. After finding a home, Minaj moved to Queens with her parents at the age of five.
