William Dodson Broyles Jr., an American screenwriter, was born in Houston, Texas, on October 8, 1944.

In addition to the television series China Beach, he also wrote the screenplays for the films Apollo 13, Cast Away, Entrapment, Planet of the Apes, Unfaithful, The Polar Express, and Jarhead. He also contributed significantly to the television series China Beach.
