Jones was born in Mobile, Alabama, and remained there until that time.

He went to Saraland High School, and as a junior, he caught 51 receptions for 1,118 yards, scoring nine touchdowns, earning him a spot on the first-team All-State.

As a senior, Jones was selected once more to the first-team All-State. Jones, a four-star prospect, chose to play collegiate football at USC and made that commitment. Later on, he reneged on his commitment to play at USC and briefly committed to play at Oklahoma.
