At Notre Dame, he participated in collegiate football. In the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft, the Ravens selected Stanley sixth overall. He was named to the Pro Bowl and the first team All-Pro in 2019.

As a true freshman in 2012, Stanley participated in two games as a reserve.

He started every one of the 13 games at right tackle as a sophomore in 2013, contributing to an offensive line that allowed just eight sacks and finished second in the FBS for fewest sacks allowed.

Ronnie replaced Zack Martin as the left tackle as a junior in 2014. He made all 13 starts, giving just one sack the entire season. He considered declaring for the 2015 NFL draft but eventually made the choice to finish his senior year at Notre Dame. He made an official announcement to enter the 2016 NFL draft following his senior year.
