In the 2013 season, Owens’ redshirt year came to an end, and he began playing defensive back for Missouri Western State University (MWSU). Owens was named the MWSU Male Student-Athlete of the Year in 2017 during his last season.
Owens was named to the All-Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) Second-Team for the 2017 campaign. Owens spent the entirety of his academic career on the MIAA Academic Honor Roll. With a pre-physical therapy major and a medical career in mind, he graduated.
