During his true freshman year at the University of Washington, Tryon-Shoyinka redshirted. He participated in 12 games as a redshirt freshman and recorded 20 tackles, two tackles for loss, and one sack. In his redshirt sophomore season, Tryon-Shoyinka recorded 41 tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss, and eight sacks.

He was voted second-team All-Pac-12 Conference. Tryon-Shoyinka announced that he will get ready for the 2021 NFL Draft after the Pac-12 initially declared that they would postpone the 2020 season because of the COVID-19 outbreak.
