There, he met Taika Waititi, with whom he later co-founded The Humourbeasts and So You’re a Man. The Untold Tales of Maui, a play by the Humourbeasts that reimagined the well-known Maori legends of Maui, was performed in 2004.
The couple received the Billy T Award, New Zealand’s finest comic honour. He also met Bret McKenzie in college, and the two went on to establish Flight of the Conchords, which they later performed in Edinburgh.
