Derrick Danta Barnes Jr., an American football linebacker with the Detroit Lions of the National Football League, was born on May 29, 1999.
He was selected by the Lions in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL Draft after playing college football for Purdue.

Barnes was up in Covington, Kentucky, and went to Holy Cross High School, where he participated in football and basketball games and ran on the track team under the direction of former Cincinnati Bengal Bruce Kozerski.
He led the team with 126 tackles on defense and led the offense with 1,567 running yards and 22 touchdowns on 150 runs as a senior, earning him first-team All-State honors and the Class 2-A, District Six Player of the Year award.
Prior to his senior year, Barnes had made a pledge to play collegiate football for Toledo, but after receiving an offer from new head coach Jeff Brohm, he switched his commitment to Purdue.
