Williams was raised in Jacksonville, Florida, where he was born. Before switching to Creekside High School following his freshman year, he first attended Bartram Trail High School.
At Creekside, he engaged in track & field, football, and basketball.
Williams attended Ohio’s D-III Marietta College for one season before quitting at the end of the year due to personal reasons.
Following a walk-on audition for the football team, he was initially rejected before enrolling at the University of Alabama in Birmingham for the spring semester.
In 2014, under the leadership of new head coach Bill Clark, he joined the squad as a walk-on and received a scholarship in the middle of the campaign.
Williams attended Florida State College in Jacksonville when UAB discontinued football following the season and worked as a flower delivery boy until UAB reinstated the sport in June 2015. Williams declined multiple transfer offers during this time.
